About 100 Baden families are currently growing wine. The location
on the edge of the Pannonian Plain provides an ideal climate. Outstanding
quality wines are thriving in Baden's vineyards. The 340 ha of vineyard
acreage produce about 12,000 hl of wine per year. Half of the harvest
is pressed by the Baden winemaking cooperative, founded in 1918,
the other half is for the most part sold in "Buschenschank",
taverns that is.
Roughly 70 percent of the wines cultivated are white. Especially
Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc, Neuburger and the rare types
typical of the thermal region - Rotgipfler, Zierfandler, Muskat
and Traminer. Among the red wines Pinot noir, Zweigelt and Blauer
Portugieser achieve the best quality.
A Baden speciality is the "Badener Lumpentürl",
a Neuburger type cabinet wine as well as a red wine cuvée
of the Baden Hauercollegium. Baden wines are known and loved for
their richness, subtle flavour and fruity acidity.
The wine unites all:
The quality of the place
the quality of time,
the nature of the soil,
the climate and history.
